Weekend two of the routinely loaded three-weekend set at Arlington’s Globe Life Field features Arkansas, Michigan, TCU and Kansas State. The Razorbacks Wolverines and Horned Frogs enter the weekend with unblemished records under their belt, while the K-State Wildcats with a less-ideal 1-4 start to 2025. Each team will play the other three in matchups featuring quality records, star players and revenge-fueled storylines.
How They Got Here
Arkansas entered the 2025 season with high expectations, not out of the norm for Dave Van Horn’s Razorbacks. DVH’s club welcomed newly-minted “mid-major’ Washington State to a frigid Baum Walker Field for a four game set on opening weekend and validated the hype surrounding their elite pitching depth and improved offense. The Razorbacks took a game to knock the snow off of their cardinal red cleats, requiring a 10th inning to notch an Opening Day victory. The quiet but existent hesitation didn’t last long in Fayetteville as Arkansas outscored the Cougars 31-6 over the next three games to clinch a sweep and subsequent perfect record through week one.
This week, Arkansas makes their fourth appearance in an Arlington-based event, the Razorbacks are 7-2 all time at Globe Life Field, going 3-0 in 2021 before producing 2-1 records in 2023 and 2024.
Michigan trots into Arlington with an anticipated cold front that may be a change of pace for the usual northern-based Wolverines, though Tracy Smith’s squad began the 2025 season in sunny and warm Puerto Rico. The weather wasn’t the only thing to write home about for Michigan as they boarded the plane home with a 4-0 record, including an Opening Day victory over consensus top-five club Virginia. The Wolverines overcame a deficit to knock off Rice before breaking out a 19-0 drubbing of Villanova. Michigan left Puerto Rico on Monday after knocking off Stetson from the ranks of the unbeaten.
Michigan returns to Globe Life Field for the third time, notching 1-2 in record in 2022 before going 0-3 in 2024. The Wolverines lone victory in Arlington came over familiar foe Kansas State.
TCU began the 2025 season on a sour note with news of losing All-American pitcher Ben Abeldt to season-ending injury before beginning play in San Diego. While the news remains a thorn in the side of Horned Frog aspirations of a return to Omaha, their 4-0 record and unanimous Top 25 ranking provides a glimmering hope for depth for a program that expects to compete in the Big 12 annually. The Horned Frogs left San Diego with a clean sweep of the Toreros thanks to eleven home runs, good for fourth in the nation.
TCU, given their advantageous geography, paces the field in Globe Life Field appearances, notching a 17-7 all time record in Arlington. Of course, this includes Big 12 Tournament play, as well as a 6-3 record in traditional regular season events.
Kansas State arrives in Arlington after beginning the season in the Carolina’s. The Wildcats opened the 2025 campaign in Conway, South Carolina where they fell to Washington and Coastal Carolina twice. Pete Hughes’ team defeated Saint Joseph’s to earn their first victory of the season after reaching the Charlottesville Super Regional in 2024. The Wildcats traveled to the research triangle to take on a tough, highly ranked North Carolina club on Tuesday. The Wildcats hit the ball well before falling to the Tar Heels. 12-9.
The Wildcats are making their debut in the regular-season Arlington tournament format. Their 11 game road swing to begin the season presents as an RPI and strength of schedule building opportunity for the program who was infamously spurned by the committee in 2023.
The Amergy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota gets underway at 3:00 local time on Friday in Arlington when TCU and Michigan square off with Arkansas and Kansas State completing the first day of action at Globe Life. The four featured teams cycle through each other on Saturday and Sunday to complete the weekend.
