If you don’t know the name Nick Barone, you will before the college baseball season is over. Wednesday, Barone hit two home runs for the Liberty Flames and helped pave the way to a 12-4 drumming over the Duke Blue Devils.
This is Liberty's second straight road win over a nationally-ranked ACC team. The first was against NC State, whom the Flames defeated 9-8 Feb. 18.
In the win over the Wolfpack, Barone went 1-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Barone, who was invited to play in the Appalachian League for the Greeneville Flyboys in 2023, appeared in 32 games, where he hit 4 home runs and drove in 28 along the way. He finished with a .307 batting average in the Summer League.

As a team, the Flames hit a total of five home runs in the victory over Duke.
Sorensen went 2-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. Troyer went 4-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. Scilley went 3-5 with a run scored and two RBI.
Another player for Liberty joining the two RBI day, but not hitting a home run, was Tucker Moore, who went 1-4 on the evening.
With the win over Duke, the Flames move to 6-2 on the season and will now prepare to face UNC Wilmington for a three-game series starting Friday, Feb. 28. First pitch for the opening series is scheduled for 4 pm.
