For the first time since 1992, the West Virginia Mountaineers were held to one hit in its 4-1 win over UCF on Friday night. That lone hit came from Kyle West who finished the game 1-for-3. West was also picked off at first base in the second inning.
According to the composite stat sheet from WVU-UCF listing, West Virginia was hit (6) different times on Friday night while UCF batters were hit (2) times.

Logan Sauve, Skyler King, Armani Guzman, Grant Hussey and Gavin Kelly all had stolen bases for the Mountaineers.
Griffin Kirn got the start for WVU, but only worked 4.2 innings allowing no runs on one hit, he only had one strikeout for the Mountaineers. Reese Bassinger, who came in for relief for Kirn, worked 1.2 innings, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out one and recorded his fifth win of the season.
Chase Meyer worked 1.2 innings, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out and walking two UCF batters. Closing the door for the Mountaineers and earning his fourth save of the season was Carson Estridge who worked one inning with a strikeout.
UCF starting pitcher Camden Wicker worked five full innings, allowing one run on no hits, but managed to strike out for Mountaineer batters belong the way. UCF would use three more pitchers in the loss to WVU, who combined to throw for four innings, striking out three, allowing one hit and three runs in the loss.
With the win, WVU remains at the top of the Big 12 standings while UCF is still fighting to move above the elimination table, however, the good news for UCF is that if the season ended today they’d be in the Big 12 tournament ad they are in 12thplace ahead of BYU and Utah.
Game two of the three-game set is scheduled for Saturday with first pitch slated for 6:00 pm. EDT.
