Texas Tech starting pitcher Lukas Pirko was impressive in his Red Raiders debut against the North Carolina Tar Heels this past Saturday.

The lengthy right-hander transferred to the Red Raiders from California Baptist University where he had an impressive first season with the club.

While with CBU, Pirko managed to work 72.2 innings where he allowed only 35 runs on 76 hits while walking 22 and striking out 76. He earned a 5-3 record and a 3.84 ERA.

Against a talented Tar Heels offense, Pirko managed to work 5.1 innings allowing a run on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. He faced a total of 21 batters and exited the game with a 1.69 ERA.

Texas Tech run support couldn’t help Pirko record the win as the Tar Heels defeated the Red Raiders 4-2.

In the series as a whole, the Tar Heels outscored the Red Raiders 17-6.

Texas Tech will try and get on the winning side of things at home for a three-game series against UC Irvine starting on Friday, Feb. 21 with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 PM.
