As quickly as some things change, the same things stay the same. That’s the case for the West Virginia Mountaineers, who have been atop the Big 12 standings for at least two weeks now and enter this week with a 14-game winning streak, thanks to a series sweep over Cincinnati.
West Virginia will play a midweek contest against Penn State. Then, the Mountaineers travel to Orlando to square off with one of six teams fighting to not be in the bottom two in Big 12 standings, UCF. The Knights were the No. 13 team last week but edged up one spot to No. 12 this week while BYU, who was avoiding the elimination table, falls to No. 13. The Cougars start their three-game set against Arizona State on Thursday.
Sitting still and holding their position tightly in last place is Utah. The Utes just haven’t found their rhythm this season and have sat at the bottom of the Big 12 for most of the 2025 campaign. And their road won’t get any easier, as they’ll face second-place Kansas this weekend. Expect a sweep or at least a series win in favor of the Jayhawks.
The rest of the standings haven’t changed that much either. However, TCU did fall from second to fourth place with their series loss to UCF.
Here’s how the Big 12 standings look today: *the bottom two teams don’t make the tournament*
West Virginia (34-4, 13-3)
Kansas (31-10, 12-6)
Arizona (28-11, 12-6)
TCU (29-12, 12-6)
Arizona State (25-15, 11-7)
Kansas State (23-17, 10-8)
Baylor (25-14, 8-10)
Cincinnati (21-18, 8-10)
Texas Tech (12-23, 8-10)
Oklahoma State (17-19, 6-9)
Houston (21-18, 6-11)
UCF (22-17, 6-12)
*BYU (19-18, 6-12)
*Utah (16-19, 5-13)
Here are the Big 12 matchups this weekend, not including midweeks:
WVU @ UCF
BYU @ Arizona State
Oklahoma State @ Cincinnati
Houston @ Kansas State
Baylor @ TCU
Arizona @ Texas Tech
Kansas @ Utah
My prediction is that WVU loses one game to UCF but wins the series. I expect sweeps from both Arizona squads, as the Sun Devils and Wildcats both go 3-0 over their respective opponents, as well as Kansas sweeping Utah. Cincinnati wins the series against Oklahoma State, and Houston wins the series with Kansas State.
UPSET pick of the week: Baylor wins the series over TCU.
